A SUBTLE WAY TO ADD A POP OF COLOR

As I prepped for the most anticipated fashion show in the city, I couldn’t help but frantically turn my closet upside down to find the perfect outfit. I was honored to see Negris LeBrum present his FW24/25 collection that brought the allure of the NYC fashion scene to Houston. This collection focused on the brilliance of meshed knits, tweeds, and washed ostrich. This show was a breath of fresh air from the attention to detail, creativity, and production, and the energy of the models was spectacular (chef's kiss).

I had so much fun putting together my outfit, I knew I wanted a pop of color, and I had these red kitten heels that I desperately needed to break out. I also had this oversized sheer blouse that took FOREVER to get shipped to me, so it was apparent that I was wearing that to the show. I wanted to add a black velvet blazer over the blouse and a red bralette underneath to make it chic. Since I prefer a fitted look, I added a chain belt for the appearance of a cinched waist, or I like to call it a “snatched waist”. I know it appears that I don’t have any pants underneath but my new obsession with hot pants is out of this world.

            I enjoyed myself so much at this show that I hope there will be more amazing productions like this soon. What color would you have used to make the outfit pop?

KILLER SLITS X DASH OF POLKA DOTS

If someone asked me "What is the most attractive thing about yourself?", my answer would automatically be my legs. I can't help but show them off and I milk every opportunity to do so. That's why when I saw this Monet skirt with a killer slit at the hip, I had to snatch it and add it to my collection. This piece screams showstopper and I knew that I would catch the gaze of everyone at this upcoming fashion show that I was attending.

 Immediately, I had to think about how to style the skirt, so I was inspired by the designer’s heavy use of denim and leather. The skirt was a bit longer than I had expected and I am on the shorter side, so pairing it with sky-high platform heels was a no-brainer. Since the skirt has such a deep slit on the side, I added the perfect polka dot pantyhose to go under it so my bum didn’t make a special appearance.

I had this black bustier that I’ve been wanting to wear for a while and I thought it would look great underneath a white Ralph Lauren button-down oxford, but I thought it would look sophisticated with the shirt open, exposing the bustier. I wanted to be intentional with the accessories, so I paired it with silver earrings (my favorite right now) and a tennis bracelet to compliment my faux leather silver-plated belt.

HOW TO DRESS FOR AN OFF-THE-GRID FASHION SHOW

I was recently invited to my first fashion show in Houston and let me tell you, it was an experience. Fashion Haus HTX presented Off The Grid at the Lyric Tower in Downtown Houston hosted by Yazzy Brown. It’s an extravagant production that Yazzy puts on annually to showcase the local talents around the Houston area.

I attended fashion shows during my college days, so it’s been a while since I’ve immersed myself in the fashion world. I was delighted that I found this opportunity to get back into something that I’m passionate about and absolutely adore. I’ve been prepping for weeks to find the perfect outfit, accessories, shoes, and don’t forget my hair. The invitation made the dress code clear: Haute Couture, High Fashion, Editorial, or avant-garde. First and foremost, if you are not aware of what each one of these styles is, just do a simple Google search. That is what helped me pull inspiration for my outfit for the show and figure out what mood I was going for.

After reviewing my mood board, I eventually decided to go for an editorial look so I went for a sleek black midi dress with a two-way zipper, then I paired that with a light blue oxford button-up shirt underneath the dress. I wanted to add some more color and chose Barbie pink mule heels. For the accessories, I had to go with my staple gold link bracelet and oversized round gold earrings.
